چکیده

Background In conventional cardiac MRI, respiratory effects are suspended or counteracted to avoid artifacts. However, in many disease states, such as pericardial tamponade/constriction and diastolic dysfunction, it is precisely variations in cardiac morphology/function with respect to respiratory changes that reflect the pathophysiology and should be studied. In this work, we image the heart during free breathing and explicitly resolve a 3D volume over both cardiac and respiratory cycles. We explore a range of options for visualizing the information captured in this 5D state of the heart.

Free Breathing Dynamic Contrast Enhanced 3D MRI with Resolved Respiratory Motion

PURPOSE: Respiratory motion is a major issue in abdominal MRI, especially for pediatric patients who have difficulty performing breath-holds. The problem is exacerbated in lengthy scans, such as for dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI. Much of the previous work has been focused on reducing respiratory motion artifacts through reconstruction correction schemes. An alternative approach is resolvi...

Prospective High-Resolution Respiratory-Resolved Whole-Heart MRI for Image-Guided Cardiovascular Interventions

Cardiovascular diseases, including arrhythmias and heart failure, are commonly treated with percutaneous procedures guided by X-ray fluoroscopy. The visualization of the targeted structures can be enhanced using preacquired respiratory-resolved anatomic data (dynamic roadmap), which is displayed as an overlay onto X-ray fluoroscopy images. This article demonstrates how dynamic roadmaps using an...

ECG/Navigator-Free 4D Whole-Heart Coronary MRA with Simultaneous Visualization of Cardiac Function and Anatomy

Purpose: Cardiac and respiratory motion artifacts are major challenges in cardiac MRI, and are conventionally suppressed by prospective ECG and diaphragm navigator gating, respectively. However, these approaches require time-consuming setup and prolonged acquisition times, and are susceptible to variations of heart rate or respiratory pattern. Further, they can become unreliable at higher field...

3D respiratory resolved phase contrast imaging of the aorta

Background Respiratory motion compensation is essential for reproducible and robust cardiovascular MRI. Traditionally, breathholds or prospective gating by bellows or navigator signals limit data acquisition to the quiescent phase of respiration [1]. These approaches do not capture any variations of blood flow over the respiratory cycle, yet respiration has been shown to significantly affect fl...

Feasibility of ultra-high-dimensional flow imaging for rapid pediatric cardiopulmonary MRI

Background A comprehensive congenital cardiac MRI exam with contrast enhancement typically consists of multiple scans to evaluate dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) characteristics, physiological function, blood flow, and anatomical assessment. However, multiple sequences require skilled operators, prolong the exam, and lengthen anesthesia duration for uncooperative patients. Thus, we propose a...
